Rumah Aman 2 : Fundraising Updates

For those who are unaware, Rumah Aman 2 Bowl For Charity event has been CANCELLED due to unfavourable circumstances. However, the building of Rumah Aman 2 still needs to be completed and more money is required as costs escalate.

The Background (a refresher): 

Rumah Aman (Shah Alam) is a foundation which is a non-profit and a non-political charity organisation set up to provide assistance and support to orphans and children from the poor and destitute families and, on a case to case basis for those in need and helpless.Presently it manages the Rumah Aman Orphanage and Welfare Home which is a registered body with the Welfare Department of Malaysia since March 2006. It operates the orphanage through donations, zakat and sadaqa lillah entrusted by public.

Through the generosity of a kind donor, Rumah Aman (Shah Alam) received as a gift, two pieces of land located on a hilltop of Sungai Buloh Country Resort, overlooking Saujana Utama in the Mukim of Ijok, Kuala Selangor, Selangor Darul Ehsan. They plan to build our second orphanage, presently known as Rumah Aman 2, on that land. The planned build up area would be almost 1,461 sq. meters (15,705 sq.  feet). It will house about 60 children complete with hostel facilities, classrooms and office area.

Here's how YOU can make a difference: 

Help Rumah Aman to support at least another 60 orphaned and poor children. Work on Rumah Aman 2 is progressing but we need your help to complete it.Help us now to build a peaceful home by sponsoring a classroom, a bed, a door or even a brick.

Charity Sales. my friends and I  will be holding charity sales at bazaars regularly within Klang Valley, (the first one was at the Bazaraya TTDI in August) to help raise funds for Rumah Aman 2. Meringues. one of us, Suraya Alssendra, is selling her homemade meringues (Alssen's Dollops) with RM5 from every box of RM15/RM20 meringues sold to go to Rumah Aman and Rumah Amal Siraman Kasih (Rawang). Available in large and small (bite-size). Flavours available: strawberry, blueberry, vanilla, and coffee (if you have other preferences you may make your request to her). Himpunan Sejuta Belia!

Yes, we are here folks, right in front of Ministry of Finance's building, Precinct 2, Putrajaya . Thanks to the organiser of Himpunan Sejuta Belia for providing us with a free booth under the 'Modal Insan' segment :)

We are currently promoting the Bowl for Charity event and collecting donations for Rumah Aman 2.
There's a 4 feet tall collection box and two baskets of 'Lucky Dips' for those who donated RM 5 and RM 10.
The Rumah Aman Yearless calendars in English and Malay are also for sale, priced at RM 50 each. All proceeds will go to the Rumah Aman 2's fund.

The Rumah Aman's booth will be open from today to this Sunday 29th May 2011 from 10 am to 10 pm, so do come and join us!

Himpunan Sejuta Belia: Call for Volunteers!

It's one week away to the 'Himpunan Sejuta Belia' and we're looking for charismatic and enthusiastic volunteers to help us man the Rumah Aman 2 Bowl for Charity's booth. The booth will be open from 9 am to 11 pm and it's located in front of the Ministry of Finance's building along Persiaran Perdana, Putrajaya.

Himpunan Sejuta Belia

Great news everyone! The organizers of 'Himpunan Sejuta Belia' has kindly offered us a booth at their event happening from the 27th to 29th May 2011 (that's less than 2 weeks away!) at Persiaran Perdana, Putrajaya. We will be there to promote the 'Bowl for Charity' event and also create awareness on Rumah Aman. So do come and join us! There will be more than 2000 other booths for you to visit and rumour on twitter is, there's going to be a free Super Junior concert ;)


Details on our exact location will be updated soon! Please bring your family, friends and colleagues over, it will be nice to meet all of you :)

Progress Update

Regrettably, Wangsa Bowl @ Selayang Mall will not be joining the other bowling alleys in participating for the event, so we have 11 alleys now.

On behalf of the other volunteers, I do apologise for what was a quiet spell and hope to update the blog more regularly.

Other than our continued effort in inviting teams and seeking sponsorship, we are working on the amended promotional literature and registration forms for the postponed event and hope followers and visitors to the blog, and anyone else interested in participating can be patient. You can still however, register for the event with the old forms if you don't mind, taking into account the latest information posted here regarding the participating bowling alleys.

We are also pleased to unofficially inform that from volunteering for Rumah Aman, we have been inspired to start a group called Volunteers of Rumah Anak-anak yatim Malaysia, or in short, VoRA Malaysia. It is currently in the process of being registered. We hope to have a separate site for VoRA Malaysia, its aims and plans, later.

We would like to thank all those who have signed up and supported this cause. However, please kindly be informed that the Rumah Aman 2 Bowl For Charity 2011 has been postponed to 8th October 2011. You may still register using the old forms.The forms with the revised date shall be out in due time.

"Charity bowling to raise RM300,000, set record

SHAH ALAM: The Rumah Aman Charity Bowling Event will take place on June 25 at 15 bowling alleys simultaneously in the Klang Valley.

Rumah Aman Orphanage and Welfare hopes to raise RM300,000 to build its second orphanage and welfare home Rumah Aman 2, and make an entry into the Malaysia Book of Records as the biggest charity bowling event to be held in the country.
"We have booked 20 lanes each at 15 bowling alleys. We expect 300 teams of four bowlers each," said Rumah Aman (Shah Alam) founder and chairman Abdul Rehman Dakri.
"I urge individuals to take part and help orphans and needy children to break away from the vicious cycle of poverty."
Rumah Aman (Shah Alam) is the welfare foundation that manages Rumah Aman Orphanage and Welfare Home, a full-fledged orphanage caring for 30 orphans and children from poor families aged between 6 and 12. They will be sheltered until they turn 18.
Rehman said the construction of Rumah Aman 2, at Sungai Buloh Country Resort, Saujana Utama, started in November last year.
"The land was a gift. Over the last three years, we raised about RM1 million for the project and we need to raise RM1.8 million more. We hope to complete the project in February next year."
Rehman thanked the bowling alleys for their participation. Pin Junction at e-Curve, Cineleisure, Mutiara Damansara and Mines Bowl at The Mines are sponsoring the games for the event, while the other have given discounts.
"We have 26 volunteers organising the charity event, and we need at least 75 more to assist us now and on event day.
"It's an opportunity to take part in a good cause and a record-breaking feat at the same time.
"We also hope corporations and individuals will come forward as event sponsors or part sponsors."
"The participating fee of RM1,000.00 per team and all sponsorships in cash or kind are tax deductible.
The closing date for registration is April 30.

Rumah Aman 2 Bowl For Charity 2011 : Revised version

I would like to convey sincere apologies to Mines Bowl on behalf of Volunteers of Rumah Aman, and Rumah Aman, for accidentally leaving them out of the video despite being one of the generous hosts by sponsoring all games played at their bowling alley for the Rumah Aman 2 Bowl For Charity event. This version now includes the Mines Bowl logo. The other generous host with the same arrangement is Pin Junction.

Some of you may already know this but to the rest, we would like to introduce you to Rumah Aman's charity shop. If you're a bargain hunter it's a place of wonderful discoveries, there are always something new for you to find at this shop as all the things being sold are donations. Best of all you won't get any buyer's remorse from shopping here as all proceeds will go to a good cause, the maintenance and development of Rumah Aman. So what are you waiting for, drop by Rumah Aman and have a look around. You may like to visit the boys while you're there!

Saturday Morning at Rumah Aman : Rise and Shine everyone!!

Weekdays have been rather hectic for most of us VoRA (Volunteers of Rumah Aman). Work commitment, family, studies and personal life in general. Weekends are the only spare time we have to spend with extended families and of course, children of Ruman Aman ;)

We were wondering what activities they have on a Saturday morning. So last Saturday, Suraya and I paid them a visit and this is what we found them doing :)
